being an individual
Journal Entry: Wed Dec 26, 2007, 1:49 PM
Well, I dont have very many watchers, but I felt like writing something about my holiday season. Me and my dad are often in battles about my peircings and my mohawk etc and how I feel that is me expressing my personality through my appearance. I also hold very special meanings attached to each of my peircings of which Id rather not talk about, but have explained that to him with no understanding or acceptance.
Christmas eve, I was home and my dad said he had something for me that I have wanted my whole life, but I would only recieve it if I shaved the mohawk and signed away "unnattural haircuts or color" for 5 years. I told him that if he had a million dollars in his pocket and I knew that, I would still decline his offer. Call me foolish, but that is selling my personality and individuality.
Christmas Day, he gives me an envelope, it has a card that says to pick up my pickup truck at work. It was one of the work vehicles, but its nice, and I am having car and financial issues. I was shocked and really happy. This can help me out a lot in life. While me and my dad argue alot, we still love each other. I went back home and told my girlfriend and had her shave my mohawk off and dye my hair back to black.
Christmas Evening, I showed up to my grandmothers where my dad was, gave him a present which contained my blue mohawk in a box. It was funny, and he read the note which said something like Dad, being an individual means having a shaved head to express my personality. My personality includes being appreciative of your hard work to help me out when I need help. Being an individual can sometimes be NOT having a mohawk to say thanks. This is very different from NOT having a mohawk for money.
I guess this journal is just a reminder, be yourself, express yourself wisely, and have good reason for your actions. Do what makes you happy and be your own judge of what success is. Last but not least, help the people you love when they need it, it will most likely be greatly appreciated.
My mohawk may be back in a month, but atleast my dad may have learned a side of my he never knew. YES, PEOPLE WITH MOHAWKS/PEIRCINGS/ETC can be loving and appreciative people with good values too!!!
